Preaching works! If you didn’t believe that, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.
It’s effective. The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to convict of sin, convince of truth and convert the heart.
When I was growing up, people would make a “public profession of faith” before being baptized. While we don’t do that step, in particular now (we see baptism as the public profession for a new believer), I do think there’s something missing in many of our church services. And I think it’s a public celebration of the results of preaching.
The congregation needs to know and see that lives are being changed by the power of the gospel.
Whether an in-person testimonial or something recorded, share some of the fruits of the gospel with your congregation. Here’s a video clip from one of our services where a new believer shared his faith boldly and publicly. Since we’d all been praying for him for a long time, it was incredibly moving and it reminded us all that God is still absolutely at work!
