Hey everyone, I’m Justin Trapp, and this is the Ministry Minute podcast where I share short, powerful stories from the front lines of ministry.
Today’s story is about two churches, two storms, and one pastor who never forgot the kindness he had once received.
In 2022, Eastern Kentucky was hit by catastrophic flooding.
Pastor Clay Herd watched as his community was overwhelmed with homes damaged and lives disrupted.
But help came. A church from North Carolina stepped in with support. Supplies and relief.
They didn’t know each other. They just knew that another church needed help. That act of generosity stuck with him.
Fast forward to 2024. Hurricane Helene strikes North Carolina. And this time, the roles are reversed.
Pastor Herd saw the headlines and didn’t hesitate.
He organized a relief effort, collected supplies, rallied his church family, and sent help to the very same congregation that once showed up for him and his church.
This wasn’t about disaster relief. It was about discipleship in action. A bond formed in suffering had become a bridge of service.
One pastor said, “I remember what you did for us. Now it’s our turn.”
So here’s the takeaway for ministry.
The seeds of compassion you plant today may grow into unexpected blessings tomorrow because the church isn’t built on buildings. It’s built on love, on shared burdens, on showing up.
One pastor, one storm, one act of kindness returned two years later.
That’s the body of Christ in motion.
