Hey everyone, I’m Justin Trapp, and this is the Ministry Minute.
What does it look like when a church says yes?
Today’s episode is about a church in Houston, Texas, that opened its doors to purpose, belonging, and one of the most beautiful candle-making ministries you have never heard of.
Together at Mikey’s Place is a nonprofit built around a simple but powerful mission to serve individuals with special needs and the families who love them.
They create more than just a community. They create candles.
Each one is handcrafted by individuals with special needs, offering not just a product, but a purpose, a job, a moment of dignity, and joy.
My wife, Tisha, met them through the special needs community. And as parents of a child with special needs ourselves, we’ve both been deeply moved by their work and mission.
However, none of this would have been possible without a church that opened its doors.
Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston provides them with free access to its facilities.
No rent, no red tape, just a church that said, “We’ll help however we can.”
Because of that generosity, Together at Mikey’s Place has a home base where people are welcomed, candles are crafted, and lives are impacted one wick at a time.
Their message is captured perfectly in a quote on their website.
“No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. And together, we can change the world.”
And if you look at it through a ministry perspective, I’ll add this.
No one church can do everything, but every church can do something. And together, we can change the world.
You don’t need a massive ministry plan or a giant budget. Sometimes all it takes is your church opening a door.
Your space could be the answer to someone’s prayer, a hallway, a classroom, or even a storage closet.
God can use it all. Because sometimes ministry starts with a candle and a church that says yes.
This is the Ministry Minute. I’m Justin Trapp. Thanks for tuning in.
