What happens when grace comes into focus?
At Lifequest Community Church, one Sunday sermon became an unforgettable moment. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. And it all started with a pair of glasses hidden in a bag.
I’m Justin Trapp, and this is the Ministry Minute Podcast, where I share real stories from the front lines of ministry.
Pastor Rob Dickerson was preaching a sermon he found on Ministry Pass called Vivid.
The message was simple. Grace changes how we see everything, not just spiritually, but also the way we see the world.
In the series guide, we suggested pastors use 3D glasses during the sermon to illustrate that idea. We also shared a video of a colorblind man seeing color for the first time using special correction glasses.
Pastor Rob didn’t use one of the illustrations; he used both.
Before the service, his team placed 3D glasses in every bag handed to attendees except for one. One bag held a pair of Enchroma glasses, the kind that allows colorblind individuals to see color more accurately for the first time.
That bag was placed in front of a lifelong color-blind volunteer.
During the sermon, Pastor Rob invited everyone to put on their 3D glasses and view the image on the screen. Blurry at first, then popping into clarity.
Next came the surprise.
The moment the volunteer opened his bag, slipped on the corrective glasses, and saw color like never before. The room erupted. Tears, applause, worship.
One person’s new vision became a church-wide reminder of the gospel’s transforming power.
The gospel doesn’t just change our eternal future. It changes how we see the present. It opens our eyes to grace, to beauty, to people whom we once overlooked.
And sometimes God uses a sermon, a prop, and a pair of glasses to remind us of that.
Pastor Rob, thank you for letting us be a small part of what God is doing at Lifequest.
And for anyone listening, don’t underestimate the power of a well-led story in a Holy Spirit-led moment.
This is the Ministry Minute. I’m Justin Trapp. See you next time.
