Hey everyone, I’m Justin Trapp, and this is Ministry Minute.
A Different Kind of Christmas Gift
What if your church could deliver Christmas to someone you’ve never met?
Not with toys or food baskets—
but by setting them free from a debt they could never repay.
That’s exactly what Transformation Church in Indian Land, South Carolina, did this past Christmas.
Ten Million Dollars… Gone
On December 22, Pastor Derwin Gray stood before his congregation and announced that their church was erasing ten million dollars of medical debt across North and South Carolina.
You might wonder: How does a single church pull that off?
They partnered with a nonprofit called Undue Medical Debt.
This organization buys large portfolios of unpaid medical bills—often for pennies on the dollar—and then forgives them completely.
Transformation Church contributed $50,000,
and that gift wiped away $10 million in debt.
A Letter That Changes Everything
Families who had been receiving collection notices
will now open a new envelope that says:
“Your debt has been forgiven.”
No strings.
No catch.
Just grace.
A Pattern of Generosity
Here’s what’s remarkable—this wasn’t a one-time headline.
Since 2020, Transformation Church has helped eliminate more than $25 million in medical debt.
They see it as a tangible way to embody the gospel message—
because Christmas isn’t just about receiving a gift.
It’s about freedom.
It’s about hearing the words:
“You owe nothing. It’s been paid in full.”
Your Church Can Make a Difference Too
Imagine what could happen if your church looked for a way to live that out in your community this Christmas season.
You may not erase ten million dollars,
but you can still proclaim the same truth:
In Christ, debts are forgiven.
Burdens are lifted.
And grace always overflows.
That’s the heart of Christmas—
heaven writing “Paid in Full” across humanity’s bill.
