What if, at the end of your life, someone asked if this pastor led you to Jesus? Stand up. If they married you, baptized you, counseled you, prayed for you, stand up. Now, imagine the whole room rises.
I’m Justin Trap, and this is the Ministry Minute podcast, where I share real stories to encourage and inspire you.
Today’s story isn’t about a platform. It’s about a funeral and a legacy.
I recently attended the funeral of a pastor who had served in ministry for 70 years, Brother Emerson. The room was full, not just of people, but of stories, generations of them. During the service, one of the speakers stepped up and asked a simple series of questions.
If Brother Emerson led you to the Lord, please stand. Many people stood up. If he baptized you, please stand up. I stood up. If he counseled you, please stand. If he married you, stand up. If he visits you in the hospital, please stand. If he prayed for you, one after another, they rose. By the end, it wasn’t just a group. It was nearly the entire sanctuary. And here’s what struck me. Brother Emerson might not recall every face, room, tear, or altar call, but they all remembered him. I remembered him.
Faithfulness leaves marks you don’t see. Ministry isn’t just about viral sermons or big events. It’s about the slow, unseen, consistent presence in people’s lives. A whispered prayer. A hospital visit at midnight. A wedding. A funeral. A baptism. A phone call. Pastor, you might not see it now, but you’re creating something lasting. It will endure long after you’re gone, just like Brother Emerson.
So here’s the question. If your ministry ended today, who would stand? Who remembers the moment you showed up? Who’s walking with Jesus because you kept showing up? Pastor, you may never get to see the whole room rise, but heaven sees it now.
I’m Justin Trap, and this has been your ministry minute.
