Hey everyone, I’m Justin Trapp and this is the Ministry Minute podcast.
Picture this.
You step into a dim chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The walls are thick adobe—the floor sags beneath your feet. A wooden statue of St. Michael looks down at the altar.
The building you are in has stood for over 400 years.
Welcome to the oldest church in America.
San Miguel Chapel was built around 1610 before Jamestown, before the Mayflower.
It was a place of worship for indigenous families, soldiers, and servants on the far side of the Santa Fe River.
Not a cathedral, not a palace, just mud, timber, and faith.
It burned in the PBLO revolt of 1680. The bell tower collapsed in a storm.
The roof had to be rebuilt more than once, but the walls held and the worship never stopped.
Every time it fell, the people raised it again. Not just to preserve history, but to keep honoring the Lord.
Today, San Miguel still hosts services, still rings it 780 lb bell, still holds the same carved altar screen that watched over centuries of prayer.
It’s not just a monument. It’s a living testimony.
A small church with an unshakable purpose.
In a world obsessed with building big and fast, San Miguel reminds us that faithfulness is the real foundation.
Pastor, your ministry may not be 400 years old, but if it’s faithful, it will stand the test of time.
