God and Culture

In the beginning, God created. Later, He created man in His own image. He saw that His creation was good. God is an artist, a creator, a painter, a writer, a poet. He creates. And as His creation – in His image – we are creators, too. But does that mean we can enjoy the arts? Does that mean we can engage in the culture we are in? Or should we avoid them out of fear of conforming to the world and its ways?

In our brand new sermon series, God and Culture, we want to help you answer those questions and more. God and Culture is a four-week series that explores the theological and biblical basis for valuing and participating in cultural and artistic creation. It helps believers understand how to think about and engage in culture and the arts by showing how God values beauty and creativity and has made each of us to be creators in his image.

If we want our culture to be changed positively for Christ, we must engage with it and create good culture within it.

In his book, Culture Making, Andy Crouch asks this powerful question:

Why aren’t we known as creators—people who dare to think and do something that has never been thought or done before, something that makes the world more welcoming and thrilling and beautiful?

Can you imagine your congregation’s creative power being unleashed on your community, region, nation, and even the world? This series could be a gamechanger for someone in your congregation to be salt and light for Christ in their areas of influence.

We love this series art and how it provokes people’s attention and accurately illustrates the subject matter. As always, this sermon series comes with a full media package that can be used in various ways to promote the series, a full sermon series guide with illustration ideas, application points, and more, along with a small group guide for each week of the series.
